Supernatural Season 3, Episodes 15 and 16
Previous Review                                                                                                   On to Series Four!
It's the season finaleeeeee *dances* And I'm... kind of an idiot XD But more of that at the end of the post.

Notes made at the time are in italics, afterthoughts aren't, blah blah...

Episode Fifteen - Time is On My Side

I sense irony in the title >.>

Oo, shiny building. Cosmetic surgeon? Redshirt. Boot of the car... "there's nothing I haven't seen"... woah. What IS that?
I genuinely thought there was some kind of beastie sticking out of his torso, but apparently not. I mean, if his liver has been removed... ohh, I get it. It's the maggots that she was screaming at, duh. :D

Looking for information, boys? You know, the holy water steam effect is really quite clever. I wonder how they do it... I mean, it looks to me like an effect rather than CGI or anything. Does anyone know anything about it?

And sorry Dean, but contract demon is evidently scarier than you are. Yeah, she has "creepy child" points, where as you're a grown-up XD

Oh, the way Dean looks away :( He really is starting (ha, starting?) to lose hope here...

Lol, Dean remembering the stripper story XD Oo, fingerprints, cool. Didn't know you could pick up fingerprints on a body. Even though that's... kind of obvious, come to think of it.

Awkward, unsettled boys *cuddles them* *cuddles them still more* Can I just keep them to hug? Please? They need it :(

"Please go away." Lol, fair enough. Ah, straightforward people :)

Organ theft? Cool. I say some things are "cool" and then I look at it and am... concerned for my own sanity XD Aha, a survivor. *giggles* Uncooperative survivor.

Silk and maggots - "I'm eating," hehe. Dean's heard this before? Obsessed with alchemy... replacing bits? Huh, awesome.
[again, with the things I find awesome >.>] Lol Sam laughing at making Dean lose his appetite. Or nearly, anyway :)

Joggers... almost certainly dead. Joggers always die. :/ I'm never going to jog XD

WOAH that. Is not a pretty face. *shudders* Nice trick with the watch-thing. Heart moniter, Hazel. My vocabulary vanishes when I'm watching this show. Along with my grammar :D

Bobby has a lead on Bela... go or stay? Sam... oh boys. "How are you gonna stop me"... boys splitting up! :( *clings* But it's okay, because Dean will turn up to save Sam when he's needed :)

Lol Rufus, I like you XD Lots of uncooperative people in this episode :)

I like that the hunters' circular is working again. And Rufus... I like you distinctly less now :/ Don't be such a downer!

Prediction: Sam's going to end up tied to the table. *giggles* Not a difficult one! But seriously, how much are they tying Sam up this season?

Oh, Bela's secret... ears like fingerprints... what's her secret? She caused the death of a family member, we know... I've been looking forward to finding this out for ages, and I wasn't disappointed.

Book of immortality. Nice catch, Sam. And naturally all the bad stuff happens in the basement :) So Sam gets tied up in the basement... which fan wrote this again? *grins*

One body... is the other one still alive? Ew maggotty arm. That's some awesomely horrible make-up on the villain. This whole plot was pretty damn cool, actually. Liked it :D

Ew, bumping over him in the car O.O And him just pushing his head back in place afterwards *giggles*

Hello Bela. And of course she's sold it already. I didn't doubt that, but I don't blame Dean for being thorough.

She killed her parents... fourteen? Woah. I'm guessing abuse... that shot of what is presumably her father going into her room when she's crying seemed to imply it. I felt kind of sad that Sam and Dean didn't make that connection, as traumatised!escapee seems more likely than fourteen-year-old-gold-digging-murderer... but ah well.

What was that above the doorframe? Liked this device, liked it muchly.

Bela - who are you - evil. Evil. She's helping Lilith, I'm guessing... and they know where Sam is O.O Boys are well ahead of her, though :)

The formula - uh oh, Sam!

CALLED IT! Also, I'm guessing eyes. *shudders*
Mmhm, I'm so on the ball with this episode *pleased*

*hiding from the screen* DEAN WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU - phew. Chloroform... clever. What are they going to do? *bites lip* Talking about cutting it fine... ugh, I couldn't watch when he was getting closer and closer to Sam's eye - though I'll admit a certain morbid curiosity about how he does that kind of repair work on himself...

Buying time - but Dean is right. Another ends-not-justifying-the-means thing.

They shut him in a fridge and buried him. That is... not nice O.O Like with whatshisface who they trapped in salt and then concrete, I wonder if this'll ever come up again? I doubt it, but it would be amusing.

Who's approaching Sam and Dean's room... Bela? She didn't shoot the boys :/ lol sex dolls. Bet that was Dean's idea XD

Woah, Bela made a deal? With a small-child Demon. LILITH. Of course. Brilliant. Question about demons and genders; given that demons were originally human, they presumably have or at least had a gender. And clearly there are preferences; Lilith seems to prefer to possess little girls. But she was referred to as a "he" a few episodes back... did she most recently nick Dean's contract off someone else, or was their information just wrong? Obviously don't answer if it's spoilery.

Also, don't tell me anything about this, but I find it rather interesting that Lilith goes by that name. In terms of symbolism and mythology, that's pretty rich - I'm particularly thinking of the Lilith of Jewish folklore who was Adam's first wife. Most intriguing :)

*waves* Bye Bela. O.O A fitting death, if she had to die. I was genuinely sad, which surprised me.

Episode Sixteen - No Rest for the Wicked

CARRY ON MY WAYWARD SON *sings along*. Right, prediction time: Sam's going to have to use his powers to defeat Lilth. Not a bad prediction as predictions go, and I still think it'll happen eventually, but clearly not yet :D

Running, Dean? Yeesh, that's one hell of a scary camera shot. ... oh, just a nightmare. Thirty hours? Cutting it fine, boys. And all that travelling yet to do...

Woah, seeing the hellhound in Sam's face. So creepy...

Cool device, Bobby, love it. Oddly, it made me think of His Dark Materials. Don't know why, it doesn't make much sense. But it's pretty, and I kind of want one :D

Boys, don't argue :/ Dean, listen to Bobby and Sam. Please. Because they're going to do it anyway and you might as well join in.

Lol, of course Sam's summoning Ruby anyway. "Phones work too." He is ready? Hm, Ruby. You're manipulative, but you have good intentions... haha, even she agrees with me. She literally said the line about being manipulative right after I'd written that down, lol.

Power-using Sam! Also, "slutty little yoda" *snort* That just brings up the picture of Yoda dressed like a stripper, so thanks for that mental image Dean! *fond eyeroll*

Woah, Dean vs Ruby O.O Sam! Sam now!... Dean you sly bastard. I thought for a minute Ruby was attacking Dean to goad Sam into using is powers - after all, the only time we've seen him use something other than dreams was when he thought Dean was going to die - but nope. Or if she was intending to, she didn't get the chance.

Sam's considering the power thing... oh boys. Dean's got a point about the repeating pattern. I'm not sure about the powers thing. I know Sam's unlikely to reach the point where he's in full possession of them - at least, not unless we encounter enemies that are hard to defeat even with Sam's powers - because that would effectively solve all their problems and there would be no plot XD But I'm uncertain about Dean's "they'll make you go evil" angle. Power corrupts, yes, but it doesn't have to. *thinking*

Eye of the Tiger XD Dean and Sam, I will always love you. :)

"What the hell does a demon do for fun?" Play at being a little kid, apparently. Wow that's a tense house. The little kid is fantastic XD. Seriously brilliant performance from another graduate of the Demon-Child school.

What's wrong with the... Bobby! "Ditchable prom date." *giggles* Of course Bobby's coming! :)

Oh Dean :) Bon Jovi and boys singing along! *loves* I love that Dean gets Sam to join in as well :D

Oh, who's... pulled over for the tail light. Demon? "Just knew"? Woah. Now Dean knows what its like to be the weird one. "Hell's bitch" *giggles*. I love Bobby and his simple explanations :D

I love the little kid playing Lilith. Brilliant. And she brings up and interesting moral debate about demon hosts. Which will be quickly sidestepped by sticking her in an adult body... I mean, fair enough. But it would've been interesting to see it strung out a bit more.

Ruby! Seriously. Ruby, you are both awesome and incredibly unhelpful. And, of course, not entirely yourself right now.

Ha, nice trick with the holy water sprinklers. I love the sneaky ways we've seen people use holy water. Usually it gets ignored as a weapon-of-choice...

Good lord the tension. And of course it'll be Sam that finds her. Naturally :D

"Do it." *shudders* If it's not in the girl... the whole family played all of their scenes incredibly well, I felt.

Oh boys *bites lip* Midnight. O.O That's not - *random noise* lol at Lilith kissing Sam. This is intensely creepy if you, like me, were still thinking of her as a small child o.O Wonder if that's the age she died at, the person that became Lilith...

No Dean! NO! SAM NOW, SAM! B-b- *stuttering incoherently* ... Sam? Woah, Lilith running before she could get stabbed.

Dean? o.o *wibbles* Hell... O.O

And there goes my firm belief that Dean would be rescued from his deal and NOT end up in hell *big eyes* By the way, although the effects look as though they're starting to date a little, I loved the hell-concept. Clever clever clever *grins* And now I guess the beginning of s4 is bringing Dean back. Huh. I can't pretend to have any clue how they're going to do it, to be honest. Too many permutations, too many possibilities. And I'm sleepy XD But I won't get hold of s4 for a few days (it's good to take a break, however much I love it) so if I think up any theories in that time I'll make a note, and post them at the beginning of my next reveiw :D

I shall see you all in season four in a few days - that is, if I can wait that long! :D

you know, when you mentioned something about halfway through the season about not really buying the tension since Dean wasn't really going to die, part of me almost posted a comment trying to remind you that this is Supernatural...

But then I thought against it, since well I wouldn't have wanted to spoil you.

*laughs* Yeah... so I'm an idiot XD I mean, I was told by several people, when I got to the end of season two and was all "wow, it wasn't a massive cliffhanger as such" that that was pretty much the only season finale that wasn't. And yet I spent all of this season rambling on about how Dean's blatantly going to be fine *laughs at self* :D

Thanks for not telling me, the show really threw me! Lol...

hahaha, I swear you are motoring through this! I finally convinced my dad and sister to start watching Supernatural on Friday, and we're only on episode seven of the Great Family Watch-Along right now.

He's annoyingly prescient, actually; in the episode with the water and the boy that no longer spoke, dad gestured to the drawing the boy had done of the ghost's bike, and said "that looks like it's from the seventies", thus ruining all suspense for later on.

I hope you enjoy s4!

Heehee, I am chugging along aren't I? I keep losing track and forgetting to send links to these reviews to the friend who got me into SPN in the first place, because she's not on LJ... which reminds me, I need to email her again...

Sounds like someone else with Predictive Powers, though in that case at least he's far surpassed me! Sometimes it is just funny to watch people guess, and other times it's kind of annoying XD

I will, I will! I hope so :D

Yay - you've made it to the finale :D.

I was at work when I saw you'd posted new reviews, but I had to read it on my phone, so couldn't write a comment easily :(.

Epsiode 15:

"Prediction: Sam's going to end up tied to the table. *giggles* Not a difficult one! But seriously, how much are they tying Sam up this season?"

Lol - he always seems to get tied up, doesn't he?

"Question about demons and genders; given that demons were originally human, they presumably have or at least had a gender. And clearly there are preferences; Lilith seems to prefer to possess little girls. But she was referred to as a "he" a few episodes back... did she most recently nick Dean's contract off someone else, or was their information just wrong? Obviously don't answer if it's spoilery."

No, Lilith held Dean's contract... I think maybe the 'he' a few episodes back was either before that it was known that the contract demon was a she or maybe it was a ploy (or even a mistake?). I read something on Wikipedia the other day about casting Lilith - they were debating whether to make her a woman or a girl and decided on a girl because it was creepier :P.

"*waves* Bye Bela. O.O A fitting death, if she had to die. I was genuinely sad, which surprised me."

Bela was actually killed off because she wasn't popular with the fan base :P.

Episode 16:

"Eye of the Tiger XD Dean and Sam, I will always love you. :)"

Look out for episode 6 of season 4 for some Eye of the Tiger goodness :P.

"Oh Dean :) Bon Jovi and boys singing along! *loves* I love that Dean gets Sam to join in as well :D"

Ahh, the Bon Jovi singing... a great moment :).

"I love the little kid playing Lilith. Brilliant. And she brings up and interesting moral debate about demon hosts."

She was good, wasn't she?

"And there goes my firm belief that Dean would be rescued from his deal and NOT end up in hell *big eyes*"

When you said in the Mystery Spot review that you wondered about Sam running into future plot points in those 6 months without Dean, I was trying to find a way to reply without mentioning that Dean went to hell after all :P. Since he died in Mystery Spot before going to hell, that basically changed the events of the rest of the season and season 4 too.

I mentioned earlier in the season what they had been planning on doing if it hadn't been for the writer's strike... according to Wikipedia, the plan had actually been that Dean would have somehow got out of the deal and not gone to hell at all.

"I can't pretend to have any clue how they're going to do it, to be honest. Too many permutations, too many possibilities."

I can't wait for your reactions to season 4 - it's my favourite after seasons 1 and 2... and I think it has a lot more strong, solid episodes than season 3 (I'll be honest, season 3 is one of my least favourite seasons) :).
HermitKnut: SupernaturalWeirdnesshermitknut on March 5th, 2012 03:36 pm (UTC)
I'll be honest, season 3 is one of my least favourite seasons

Yeah, I've been sensing that from a lot of people oddly. I've really enjoyed it, but I must admit it's not quite... there's something ever so slightly lacking. But I did think that that was just me watching most of it while extremely tired XD

The Eye of the Tiger clip - the extended one, with Jensen basically doing most of the song and rocking out completely? That was the clip my friend showed me to convince me to watch Supernatural XD I can't wait to see the context for it :D Even though I know (I think?) that it's just the short version in the episode, the longer one is a blooper.

Also, Bela seems to be the inverse of Leon from Merlin, then. Fair enough! There must be a light side to the dark and all that XD

HK
heavenli24heavenli24 on March 5th, 2012 03:55 pm (UTC)
I think the main problem with season 3 was the writer's strike affecting things... they were just starting to build up the plot and the tension in the middle of the season and then they had to change tactics at the last minute.

I've read on Wikipedia what their original plans were for the season, but I won't mention any more of it here because they ended up developing several of the plot points in season 4 instead. I think that might be why I find season 4 so much better than season 3, because they were able to really plan it all out properly beforehand and develop the season at a good pace... when I rewatch season 4, I can usually watch all the episodes one after the other without getting bored because there's something I like/love about about each one (there are only 2 or 3 episodes in the whole season that I'm not so keen on), whereas with season 3, there are several episodes I don't usually care to watch again (I usually just re-watch episodes 2, 8, 11, 12 and 16).

Yeah - it's that Eye of the Tiger clip... there's only a little bit of it in the episode, but they show the entire thing in the credits at the end :P.

I'm afraid I don't watch Merlin, so not sure who Leon is... well, I saw the beginning of one episode because my brother was an extra in it, but apart from that, I haven't really seen it.
HermitKnut: SupernaturalWeirdnesshermitknut on March 5th, 2012 05:42 pm (UTC)
Yeah, shifting gears so close to the end has got to be tough. And that's fair enough - sometimes there are episodes you're just not as keen on.

*grins* In the credits, excellent XD I look forward to it!

Leon was supposed to be a temporary second-in-command knight, under Arthur, who turned up for the last... three, I think... episodes of the second season. He was with a whole bunch of other knights that supposedly got burned to a crisp in the finale (Merlin violence is pretty much always off screen) but the fans complained. Basically, the fandom loved him so much that the production team brought him back for season three and he's now a semi-regular. :D At least, that's how the story goes.

Ooo, that's so cool! I'd ask what episode, but given that you're not a fan I can't really expect you to know :D

HK
heavenli24heavenli24 on March 5th, 2012 06:23 pm (UTC)
It was an episode that aired around November 2010... I think it might have been the beginning of the episode The Coming of Arthur Part One - unfortunately, you can't really see him in it because he was a dead soldier lying on the ground and they just did a quick camera sweep over the bodies, before focusing on the actual character in the scene. Apparently, my brother drove home from shooting with most of his injury make-up still on :P.

He's been in a few TV shows recently (he's training to be a TV/movie stuntman and has to build up a certain number of days of filming as an extra) - he even died in Casualty a few weeks ago :P.
HermitKnut: SupernaturalWeirdnesshermitknut on March 5th, 2012 10:14 pm (UTC)
That's so cool, I wish him luck :)

So Dean's in HELL!!!! Take some time to really feel it. It hurts doesn't it? It was a very long summer for me. I won't tell you how many times that summer I remembered and had to just stop what I was doing and take a moment. It was long, very long.

on Sam getting tied up ~ it's my belief that Sam is somehow asking for it. I mean come on, it can't happen that often by happenstance. It's the same with him getting strangled. He must be giving off signals.

on Lilith ~ was that little girl not the creepiest bestest ever? I really loved the dinner table scene, it was absolutely horrifying in all the best ways.

on BonJovi ~ it has ruined that song for me forever...such a great moment but at the same time, my chest is clenching.

Well, that's over thankfully. You have no idea how hard it is to keep relatively mute on these important plot points. (although there is one I'm still sitting on). I really wanted to yell out to you "he IS going to die, and it's horrible, and Sam won't save him, and Ruby won't help", in fact you can't begin to imagine how many times Dean will be killed this season :)

ONWARD...
HermitKnut: SupernaturalWeirdnesshermitknut on March 5th, 2012 04:26 pm (UTC)
It's bizarre - when I've left a show like that, I can't think of the characters any other way. Like, in my head right now, a teeny Dean is stuck in hell and no matter how hard I try and think of him another way I can't. Not until this gets resolved. It's the same thing I got with Sam when he got stabbed near the end of last season - two days of that being the only way I could picture him. *shakes head* I'm insane XD

Hm, it's a thought. Sam's giving off vibes - tie-me-up vibes *grins* You know, I think I can sense them from here?

Haha, I thank you all for being so patient with me :D I get terribly squirmy myself, watching someone work through something I'm familiar with. Especially when there are twists! :D

Onwards indeed - I look forward to it! I'm thinking I should've hit the first episode by Wednesday, if rehearsals don't steal my time away. :)

Okay, apparently I can't embed this vid anymore, but just ... trust me and go watch it.

So true story - after 3.16 I was, like, totally numb for about 2 weeks. I had been hired to shoot photos at a wedding the second weekend after, and that morning, I watched this vid, and whatever it was that was keeping me from getting all emotional about Dean SHATTERED and I sobbed ALL DAY, and then I went to the wedding and I was all fine and distracted until at the reception this 4 year old little boy goes up to the DJ and says he wants to sing a song, and the DJ asks him what song, and he goes, 'Dead or Alive by Bon Jovi!' and I LOST IT AGAIN, lol, and my friend Ruth had to take me home and we spent 2 days rewatching season 1 and I spent like 3 more weeks sobbing constantly and then that was the longest summer of my LIFE.

Anyway, uh. It's a good vid. :)
HermitKnut: AnimorphsRhetorichermitknut on March 7th, 2012 08:39 pm (UTC)
Way to make ME cheerful XD It's a really good vid, that one :) I'm supposed to be watching s4 ep1 tonight, but I don't know if I'll get to it. It's not that I've lost interest - far from it - I think I'm just hiding from the angst I know is coming *sheepish*

However, I shall arm myself with chocolate milk (mmm) a pen and a notepad, and face the thing down! *stubborn*

Thanks for the vid! :D

It's not that bad, lol. There's not even really any major angst until several episodes into the season, but even with the angst, there's a fair amount of light-heartedness in there too :).

Hope you watch it soon (if you haven't already) - looking forward to reading what you think, since about 12 of my favourite episodes are in season 4 (that's more than in any of the other seasons) :).

P.S. Just noticed what song you were listening to when you posted the review above... haven't heard It Takes More in years - I was doing my first year exams at uni when it came out... it's kind of a scary thought that it was almost 10 years ago :P!
